Waterfalls
It is said that New Zealand has 249 named waterfalls… I haven’t seen them all but here are a few that I particularly like, either for their shapes or the conditions at the time that the shot was taken.
Owharoa Falls, near Karangahake Gorge, New Zealand
There are countless waterfalls at Milford Sound, New Zealand. Some are permanents, and a lot of other ones are only temporary, that form after big rainfalls.
A spectacular waterfall in Arthur’s Pass, New Zealand. I absolutely loved the snow on the rocks around it.
A larger view of Devil’s Punchbowl waterfall in Arthur’s Pass, New Zealand.
A lovely bush walk takes you to this waterfall that, luckily, was stroke with some really nice sunbeams.
A waterfall seen from the Charming Creek walkway and after having crossed a high, yet very narrow, suspension bridge.
One of the most photographed waterfalls in New Zealand, which is also featured on national postage stamps.
Dorothy Falls, near Lake Kaniere and the town of Hokitika, New Zealand. The shape of this waterfall makes me think of an hourglass, don’t you think?
A 10m waterfall reachable after a short fifteen-minute walk, in the Catlins, New Zealand.
A very fun and short walk takes you to these falls, in the Catlins, New Zealand.
Marian Falls are not as spectacular as other high waterfalls, but are rather a series of cascades on your way to Lake Marian, in the Milford Sound area, New Zealand.
